Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at contactus@skin-craft.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Anti-wrinkle treatments refer to procedures or products designed to reduce or prevent the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, particularly those caused by aging or repetitive facial movements. The most common anti-wrinkle treatments are injectable solutions, commonly known as Botox, which temporarily relax the muscles that cause wrinkles, particularly in areas like the forehead, around the eyes (crow's feet), and between the eyebrows (frown lines). These treatments help smooth out the skin, giving it a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

Other non-injectable anti-wrinkle treatments include topical creams, laser therapy, and microneedling, which aim to promote collagen production and improve skin texture

Filler injections, often referred to as dermal fillers, are non-surgical treatments used to restore volume, smooth out wrinkles, and enhance facial features. These injections are typically made from substances like hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, or poly-L-lactic acid, which are designed to mimic the skin’s natural structure and help support and plump the skin.

Common uses of filler injections include:

  • Adding volume to areas that have lost fullness, such as the cheeks or under the eyes.
  • Smoothing wrinkles and fine lines, especially around the mouth (nasolabial folds) and chin.
  • Contouring and enhancing features, such as plumping the lips or defining the jawline.
  • Restoring youthful facial contours, giving a more refreshed and lifted appearance.

The results are generally immediate, but the duration of the effects varies depending on the type of filler used, ranging from several months to a year or more. Filler injections are popular for their minimal downtime and ability to provide subtle, natural-looking enhancements.

At Skin Craft client comfort is of upmost importance. We are able to administer topical and/or injectable local anaesthetics for all treatments. (inclusive in treatment price).

Lignocaine, also known as Lidocaine, is a commonly used local anesthetic that numbs the skin and underlying tissues to prevent pain during medical and cosmetic procedures. In the context of cosmetic injectable treatments,  Lignocaine is an anesthetic administered to the skin before procedures like anti-wrinkle, dermal fillers, or microneedling to minimize discomfort.

How does lignocaine work?

Lignocaine works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals in the area where it is applied. It inhibits sodium channels in nerve cells, preventing the transmission of pain signals to the brain. This creates a numbing effect on the skin and underlying tissues, allowing for more comfortable injections.

Why is lignocaine used in cosmetic injectables?

Cosmetic injectable treatments can involve needles or other instruments that may cause pain or discomfort. Lignocaine cream/injection is used to make these procedures less painful and more tolerable for patients. It is particularly helpful in sensitive areas such as the lips, around the eyes, and the nasolabial folds.

After undergoing cosmetic injectable treatments, proper aftercare is essential to ensure the best results, minimize side effects, and reduce the risk of complications. Here's a general guide to aftercare following injectable procedures like anti-wrinkle or dermal fillers:

1. Avoid touching the area

  • Why: Touching, rubbing, or massaging the area can disturb the injectables and lead to uneven results or migration of the product.
  • What to Do: Avoid touching, pressing, or applying makeup to the treated area for at least 24 hours after the procedure.

2. Avoid strenuous activity

  • Why: Intense physical activity (like heavy exercise or cardio) can increase blood flow, which may lead to bruising, swelling, or movement of the injectable.
  • What to Do: Refrain from intense exercise or activities that increase heart rate for about 24-48 hours after treatment.

3. Keep your head elevated

  • Why: Lying down flat may cause the injectable to settle unevenly or cause pressure on the treated area.
  • What to Do: Keep your head elevated for a few hours after the procedure, especially if you’ve had dermal fillers or lip injections.

4. Avoid heat exposure

  • Why: Heat can increase swelling and bruising. It may also cause the product to break down more quickly.
  • What to Do: Stay away from saunas, hot showers, hot tubs, or direct sun exposure for at least 24-48 hours.

5. Avoid alcohol and blood thinners

  • Why: Alcohol and blood-thinning medications (like aspirin, ibuprofen, or some supplements) can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.
  • What to Do: Avoid alcohol and blood thinners for 24-48 hours after the treatment.

6. Do not massage the treated area (unless directed)

  • Why: Massaging can shift or move the injectable product out of place.
  • What to Do: Only massage the area if instructed to do so by your practitioner, as in some cases, gentle massage can help the product settle.

7. Monitor for side effects

  • Why: It’s normal to experience mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, but more serious side effects should be monitored.
  • What to Do: Contact your injector if you experience anything unusual, like severe pain, infection, or any signs of a more serious reaction (e.g., fever, severe swelling, or difficulty breathing).

8. Don't apply makeup right away

  • Why: Applying makeup too soon after treatment can irritate the skin and increase the risk of infection.
  • What to Do: If you need to wear makeup, wait at least 4-6 hours after treatment before applying any products to the treated area.

9. Hydrate and rest

  • Why: Staying hydrated and allowing your body to rest supports healing and recovery.
  • What to Do: Drink plenty of water and allow your body to rest, especially on the day of the treatment.

10. Follow-up appointment

  • Why: A follow-up appointment may be necessary, especially for dermal fillers, to assess the results and make any adjustments if needed.
  • What to Do: Schedule a follow-up appointment with your injector, typically 2-4 weeks after treatment.

11. Avoid smoking (if possible)

  • Why: Smoking can constrict blood vessels and reduce circulation, potentially interfering with the healing process and results.
  • What to Do: Avoid smoking for at least 24-48 hours after your treatment.

Special considerations:

  • Anti-wrinkle/Neurotoxin Injections:
    • You may be advised to avoid lying down for 4 hours after the procedure to help the product settle.
    • You might be told to avoid massaging the area to prevent the toxin from spreading.
  • Dermal Fillers:
    • It's especially important to avoid pressure on treated areas (like the lips) to allow the filler to set and avoid uneven results.

Always follow the specific aftercare instructions given by your practitioner, as they may vary based on the type of injectable used and your unique treatment plan. If you notice anything unusual or have concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to your provider right away.
